Editing the User Model After Activation

Step 3 of onboarding is not your only chance to configure the unified user model. Once your dataset is active, the same field list — names, descriptions, sources, priority order, and aggregation rules — stays editable from Tables Configuration, without re-running onboarding.

Why this exists

Merges and rules you accept during onboarding are informed guesses, not final answers. A source you thought was reliable may turn out incomplete, or a new table added later may need folding into an existing field. Post-activation editing lets you correct or extend the model as you learn more, instead of living with your Step 3 choices forever.

What you can change

The same editor as Step 3, reused in place:

  • Name and description
  • Sources · priority order — add, remove, or reorder sources
  • Aggregation rule — any rule valid for the field's type

The same aggregation rules and type restrictions apply. Adding a new source can change the field's type, since the type is always taken from the first-priority source — if that invalidates the current rule, the editor resets it, just as it does during onboarding.

What's different from Step 3

  • No activation gate. Step 3 blocks progress on unmapped fields because the wizard is building a model for the first time. Post-activation, each field save is independent — there's nothing to "finish."
  • Saving rebuilds the user model table. Save user model starts a rebuild of the unified user table right away, without waiting for the nightly update. While it runs, the edited fields are shown as being rebuilt instead of raising a schema warning. If the rebuild fails, the Schema Integrity Check says so. The table is also rebuilt after every successful nightly update.
  • New tables are not merged in automatically. Columns of a user table added via Add Tables do not join the model on their own: add them as a source of an existing field, or add a new field with Add Field. A field without sources counts as Unmapped.

Where to find it

Open the Datasource Manager page (system menu, gear in the header): the Unified User Model section sits above the source tables. Use Expand to open it, search the fields, and Save user model or Discard your edits. Only users who can edit the Datasource Manager can change the model. It behaves like the Step 3 field list described above — see that page for the full mechanics of aggregation rules, priority order, and derived identifier attributes.
